Positives for female participation

Positives for female participation

This blog will look at some of the positives in female participation in martial arts and discuss some of the misinformation and stigma attached to it. We will look at it from a personal benefit to a wider benefit basis also.

  • Female participation increases the level of fitness that results in a better mood, mental and physical wellbeing and increased in better life quality. Depression , post natal or otherwise can be addressed by participating in an fun and engaging activity such as martial arts. This is due to the group factor as classes are done in a group of other like-minded females.
  • Increase in self-confidence. As an active participant in martial arts you will be learning skills and techniques that will help you to be safe and capable should you need to resort to them. Martial arts promotes self-defense and in that way to more active participation is undertaken the more confidence one gains in their ability to execute the techniques learned. Humans psychology States that those people who look less confident in their demeanor are most likely to be targeted for violence. This is particularly true for women and females in general, violence against girls and women are in the increase.

Making new friends. Martial arts is usually taught in a group and this group will be working together to achieve individual and grouped targets.

  • Keeps the doctor away - Enrollment in martial arts not only keeps the one learning about self-defense but also about maintaining fitness. You may be surprised to know that the biggest impact on fitness is not physical exertion but the food you eat and the diet you maintain. These are actively promoted in martial art sessions. We know it is hard to make changes when individually done but we also know when we are in a group it becomes easier to adapt to changes.
  • Discipline - It can be easy to drift away with sleeping in late, waking up late, procrastinating with tasks etc. Sometimes there are just too many things to juggle. Martial arts instills discipline and this helps with getting things done on time, efficiently, and to the best of ones ability! Sounds familiar? These phrases are always heard in almost every session!
  • Some people think martial arts is only for men and is not suitable for females. This is due to martial arts being associated as a masculine activity. Whilst martial arts is indeed taken up by males, there is a space for female participation. The fitness, mental and physical wellbeing, addressing real issues such as depression, isolation, the fact females are being targeted for violence are all reasons to suggest females can and should partake in a safe and group activity as martial arts.

With more females partaking , it is hoped they can then deliver sessions to other females in particular to help them get the benefits martial arts promotes.

We have an amazing female session. This is fully segregated, so you can be comfortable and reassured. The sessions are delivered by a highly experienced female coach ( took us 5 years to find a suitable coach!) We have an amazing set of women and young girls ready to welcome you to the club. Make friends, have fun and be fit and confident!
